These frozen Tuber uncinatum truffles are the ones we give participants during our truffle dog training courses. They can be used for a few refresher exercises at the start of the season or to maintain your dog's skills through regular practice.

To train your dog to find truffles, we recommend attending our truffle hunting course. These truffles then allow you to continue practising and apply what you have learned during the course.

At Swiss Truffle Dealers, our recommendation is simple: real truffles, and only real truffles. Your dog works directly with the scent they will need to locate in the field.

A category reserved for training

These truffles may be broken, in pieces or softer in texture. Their appearance and firmness do not meet the criteria for our culinary selection. This pack is offered exclusively as a scent source for truffle hunting training. For cooking, choose truffles from our culinary range.

No oil or added flavouring

For this method, never use truffle oil or flavouring, even if labelled “natural”. Use the truffle itself to familiarise your dog with its authentic scent.

Why avoid containers during searches?

We advise against training tins and other containers, whatever their shape. They can introduce their own smells and become an additional cue: your dog may learn to associate the search with the combination of “truffle + container”. Working directly with the truffle helps limit these unwanted cues and brings training closer to actual field conditions.

Storage and use

  • Keep the truffles in the freezer.
  • Take out only the amount needed when leaving for training, without thawing beforehand.
  • After the session, promptly return them to the freezer in an airtight container reserved for their storage.
  • Repeat at each training session as long as the truffles remain in good condition. Discard any mouldy or deteriorated truffles.

Once used for training, keep these truffles exclusively for that purpose and do not consume them. Refreezing between sessions is intended solely for their reuse as a scent source. Use under supervision and make sure your dog does not eat the truffles.
